Since your 1996 Dodge Ram Van with the 3.9L engine has a 120 amp alternator you will need the Redarc Smart Start Battery Isolator # 331-SBI212 with a 200 amp rating, as the # DW08771 you were looking at is only compatible with alternators that have an amp rating of under 120 amps.
The # 331-SBI212 will get wired between your start battery and auxiliary battery allowing both batteries to stay charged, while keeping your start battery from being drained to the point that it cannot run your engine.
