Trailer Hitch Receiver, Wiring And Brake Controller For Towing a Tear Drop With 2017 Hyundai Tucson
Question:
Hello, I am looking to install a Class III hitch on my 2017 Tucson and need to install wiring to accommodate a 7 pin round connector for the tear trailer I plan on towing. I see wiring kits for the flat 4 pin connector but not for the 7 pin round connector I need. Any recommendations? The trailer also has trailer brakes so I would also need to install brake hardware in the vehicle.

I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75836 for your 2017 Hyundai Tucson. This will give you a class III 2" receiver that will allow you a larger variety of ball mounts to best level your Tucson. It is rated for 525lbs of tongue weight and a trailer capacity up to 3,500lbs. Be sure to verify your towing capability with your Hyundai dealer to ensure you stay within the manufacturers ratings.
The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118501 will give you a 4-way trailer connection. This connection controls the running lights and turn signals/brake lights on your trailer. You will pair this with the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 to give you a 7-way on your Tucson.
The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 is the brake controller I recommend. This brake controller is customizable and features an LCD screen with diagnostic features that will help you with any errors that occur with your trailer brakes. The controller is proportional to automatically adjust for light or heavy braking and can easily be removed and stored away with its quick release mount and power cord.
