How Do You Transport a Spare Tire on the Thule Canyon XT Roof Cargo Basket?

Do you put tire front side downdeep end up onto rack or right side up on Thule 859 xt rack. when mounting it

If you plan to mount a tire on your Thule Canyon XT Roof Cargo Basket - Steel - 49" x 40" x 6" # TH859XT or the TH859XT-8591XT, it is safer to put the tire on its side in the basket (as opposed to being right-side-up with the tire treads meeting the bottom of the basket). If you need attachment straps to keep your spare tire secure on the Canyon XT, I recommend the Erickson Cam Buckle Tie-Down Straps w/ S-Hooks # EM34409.
