Recommended Cost Effective Proportional Trailer Brake Controller For 2005 Ford F-150 W/ Tow Package

Question:

I have a 2005, f150 XLT. It came new with a trailer package. I dont know what that means as it relates to anything towing. I think rear end gearing and a hitch. I will be towing a vehicle about 100 miles. This might be the only towing I ever do. Not sure. It might be cost effective to rent a trailer. Can you recommend a cost effective, proportional controller complete plug and play? Thanks PS: Pleased to see all the great reviews of your customer service. You are to be congratulated.

Thank you for the kind words!

Since your 2005 Ford F-150 XLT has the factory towing package you can simply install a proportional controller with a plug in wiring harness. Now if it came with a 4-way connector and not a 7-way connector, you will also need the # ETBC7.

With you only planning on towing a car this once, and not towing often I recommend going with the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 as it is the most cost effective proportional controller that is still good quality and reliable.

To plug it in to your truck you will need the plug in wiring adapter # 3035-P. This will plug in directly to the factory trailer brake controller port underneath the dash as shown in the included video showing the # 90195 being installed on a 2005 Ford F-150 with this harness.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
