Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes Engaging During Left Turn with Curt Echo on 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500
Question:
Hello! This is my second season towing a 3500lbs pop-up trailer using wireless echo controller. Last year I towed using 2018 Ford Flex w/no issues I just returned from 3 week camping trip towing same trailer with my 2006 Silverado 1500 and noticed that on occasion when making a left turn and tapping my brake, the trailer tires would lock up and skid through turn. What is causing trailer to lock up during a turn when I have no braking issues stopping/braking while traveling straight. I had sensitivity set at 5 and max output at 25. I have checked emergency brake line and there is no snagging and emergency disconnect is intact. Thank you! Kevin.

It sounds like your settings are fine on the # C51180 Echo and, according to Curt, this could not be an issue caused by the Echo itself. The most likely reason you are encountering this problem is a wiring issue, which would also explain why you do not encounter this consistently.
I would check all of the wiring and grounds since you likely have a short somewhere. When you are making that left turn, it is probably just enough force in that direction to cause the right movement and the 12V power hops over to the brake line. Make sure your ground wires have a good, clean connection. You will be looking for spots that have been nicked, pinched, or rubbed and have copper wire showing through the jacketing. Wrap any damaged areas with electrical tape.
I also recommend checking the pins and connectors on your truck and on the trailer. Make sure there is no corrosion on your 7-way socket which could also cause this problem.
In addition to this, you may also check the brake assemblies. Make sure the connections are good and that the brakes are properly adjusted.
I have attached a helpful troubleshooting article for your reference. Method 3 and Method 4 are what apply in this instance.
