Where and How Do the Short Safety Cables From the Roadmaster Base Plate # 1528-3 Connect
Question:
I have Roadmaster Stowmaster 5000 tow bar #RM-501 and the Roadmaster base plate #1528-3. I use them for my 2000 Honda CR-V. I do not see anything in the Roadmaster base plate #1528-3 installation instructions as to where and how the short safety cables that come with it attach to the Roadmaster Stowmaster 5000 tow bar #RM-501. The instructions merely say Attach the 12” safety cables to the receiver brace using the supplied cable connectors. Connect the other end to the tow vehicles safety cables and tow bar. I do not see where they can attach to the Roadmaster Stowmaster 5000 tow bar #RM-501. Furthermore, how do the long safety cables that attach to the motorhome receiver attach to either the tow bar or the base plate? I know a carabiner type cable connector is used for both the short cables and the long cables. But nothing shows how or where they meet and connect at the tow bar. Thanks.

I spoke to my contact at Roadmaster and he told me that because the holes on the base plate are so small, the short safety cables of the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 1528-3 are used to connect directly to the safety cables from your RV. You will need another set of coming from your RV to hook to cables on the base plate.
I recommend the RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643. I recommend these cables because the fact that they are coiled up to keep them off the ground preventing damage.
