Is There A Hitch Platform Bike Rack That Swings Away From Your Vehicle To The Left

Question:

We live in NZ and drive on the left hand side of the road. Do you have or manufacture a backswing to the left?

We do not offer a hitch bike platform rack that swings away to the left. However, Kuat does make an adapter that you can use with a hitch bike rack that will open to the left side of your vehicle. But since it is an adapter, you will reduce the maximum tongue weight of your hitch receiver by 50% if you add it to your existing hitch bike rack. If your hitch receiver is a Class III hitch receiver this should not be an issue, unless you are transporting electric bikes. Since electric bikes tend to be heavier than a traditional bike this setup might not be ideal.

The Kuat Pivot 2 Swing Away Hitch Extender for Bike Racks - 2" Hitches - Driver's Side, part # PVD20B, will allow you to pivot, and lock in place, your hitch bike rack 90º or 120º to the left side of the rear of your vehicle. It comes with a locking anti-rattle hitch pin that will eliminate the play between your hitch receiver and the hitch extender while securing it to your vehicle.

If you pair it with the Kuat NV 2.0 Base Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount - Matte Black, part # BA22B, you will get the best of both worlds. A hitch platform rack that carries your bikes by the wheels, thus keeping your bike frame form possibly getting damaged. You will be able lock this hitch bike rack to the hitch extender and also lock the bikes to the hitch bike rack.

Please remember that the use of this hitch extender will reduce the maximum tongue weight of the rack by 50%. The weight of your bike rack, the hitch extender, and the bikes you transport when added together cannot exceed this weight. Please refer to your hitch receiver's manual to get that weight.
