Recommended Trailer Hitch and Towing Setup For 2003 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 158" Wheelbase
Question:
This van is 22 ft long with 158 wheel base. It has a Gulf Stream Vista Cruiser coach. It has a factory step bumper. We were told by an RV dealer that we could not safely add a rear hitch to our van. In other places online I have seen hitches available. Behind underneath is the generator. I can send pictures if needed. Anyway we want to add a hitch and get the whole kit with wiring, receiver ball etc. Thanks for your help

I am not sure why the RV dealer you went to said you could not safely install a trailer hitch receiver on your 2003 Freightliner Springer 2500 Van with the 158" wheel base and factory step bumper, as the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75210 was specifically designed for your van and is a confirmed fit.
You will however want to check the owner's manual of your Sprinter to find its towing capacity, and use the lower rating between the hitch and vehicle. The # 75210 has a tongue weight rating of 500lbs and a trailer weight rating of 5000lbs, or a tongue weight rating of 750lbs and a trailer weight rating of 7500lbs if using a weight distribution hitch.
For a vehicle wiring harness you will need the # C59236, and for a ball mount, hitch ball, and hitch pin and clip I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 as it includes two different ball mounts, one with 1" rise and 2" drop, another with 2" rise and 4" drop, and both a 1-7/8" and 2" hitch balls so you can be confident you will have the correct components to tow your trailer level.
I included a link to the written instructions of the # 75210, and video reviews for the other products mentioned for you to take a look at.
