Trailer Gain Message Readout On Dash Of 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 Without Trailer Connected

Question:

2014, GMC Sierra 1500 with tow package. The display is showing a message about trailer gain even when I do not have a trailer hooked. I can acknowledge and it returns to miles per hour but then the message pops up again. Nothing appears to be wrong, wondering if its a sensor or something simple.

The trailer gain will prompt on your dash without a trailer connected when the gain buttons are pushed or manual override is used in your 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. If these are not being used it could be a bad switch in the controls themselves or a short in their wiring.

As this system is controlled by the Sierra's ECU you should have this inspected by a dealer who will be able to connect to the ECU and check for any errors.

You can also eliminate the factory controller for a more versatile aftermarket controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. This controller is customizable and has a LCD screen that will tell you what to check when you have a trailer brake error. The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3016 will make installation plug and play. This is a proportional brake controller with an internal inertia sensor. It will automatically adjust braking force for light and hard braking conditions.
