Recommended Brake Controller For a 2021 Jeep Cherokee With Factory Tow Package
Question:
I have a 2021 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with factory tow package. I bought the Jeep specific to pull a 2012 Jayco Jay Flight Swift SLX Series M-145 RB weighs 2370 empty. My salesman said I would not need a brake controller for that camper. Helpful friends tell me I do. I have already pulled the camper about 300 miles. I didnt have any problems. So my Question is: Do I need a brake controller?

As your 2012 Jayco Jay Flight Swift SLX M-145RB does come equipped with trailer brakes I highly recommend a brake controller on your 2021 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. This will save the brakes on your Jeep since they will no longer be required to provide all the stopping force for the Jay Flight travel trailer.
I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 for your Jeep. This brake controller is proportional which allows it to automatically adjust braking force sent to your trailer. An inertia sensor inside the controller accounts for the braking force applied to your Jeep and adjusts the amount of power sent to the trailers brakes to equal that amount. It is customizable and has built in diagnostic capabilities if you have troubles with the braking system on your Jay Flight.
A Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter # 3014-P will allow you to plug into the Jeep's factory wiring and into the back of the brake controller. This makes the installation plug and play with no splicing required.
