Determining What PSI Trailer Dolly Tires Should Be Aired Up To

Question:

How much psi should I put in dolly trailer tires?

Expert Reply:

The correct tire pressure for the tires on your dolly will be dependent on your specific tires. All tires have a max PSI rating stamped on the side wall, and is what the tires are designed to be used at.

For example the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range B # AM30020 are designed for up to 60 PSI so you would want to air them up to that pressure.

Trailer tires are made differently than car/truck tires in the sense that they have a thicker side wall. Running lower than the maximum air pressure can cause excess heat to build up in tire which can lead to premature tire wear and tire failure such as a blow out.

I included a video of the # AM30020 for you to take a look at.
