Can 5.30-12 Be Used As A Spare Tire For Trailer With ST145R12 Tires?

Question:

Hi there, I have two 145R12 tires on my tent trailer currently. Can I use a 5.30-12 as a spare? That means incase I have a flat tire, I’ll be using different types tire on each side. Thank you!

A 5.30-12 could be used as a spare for a 145R12 tire, but it is not recommend due to the 1/2" difference in tire height. While this is not a huge size difference, it will put extra weight on the shorter 145R12 tire and can cause issues with the suspension.

I recommend using a spare tire with the same overall height as your normal tires. In this case the only tire with the same overall height as your current tires is another 145R12.

I recommend going with the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - LR D # AM31199DX which due to it being the size you need, and it comes pre-mounted on a while with the common 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern so it is a perfect spare option.

If you have the 4 on 4" bolt pattern then I recommend going with the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel - 4 on 4 - LR D # AM35351DX instead.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
