Trailer Hitch to Mount On the Back of a Horse Trailer for a Cargo Carrier

Question:

I am looking for a hitch to mount on the back of an Elite Aliminum Horse Trailer. It does not have the 4inch bumper that is on an RV. I want to have a cargo carrier to haul a miniature horse cart. Any suggestions?

What I recommend is to use a frame mount trailer hitch, # 13703 and stabilization strap # 18050 to hold a cargo carrier on your trailer. The Curt hitch will mount to a box frame, I-beam frame, or C-channel frame. It can be bolted or welded on (welding needs to be done by a qualified professional welder). I have included a link to the installation instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you.

This hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds so the combined weight of your cargo carrier and horse cart cannot exceed that 350 pound capacity. Also, there is significantly more movement at the back of a trailer when compared to the back of a passenger vehicle (think of being at the back of a school bus) so you have to make sure the carrier and cargo is very secure.
