While friction sway control like the # 83660 is going to improve the tracking on the trailer and make towing a more enjoyable experience, it is not really a requirement. Sway control is more subjective, in that one person could tow the trailer and feel comfortable but another person could tow the same trailer and feel like it sways too much for their taste.
From my research, the 4WD Colorado models have a towing capacity of 4000lbs at most when properly equipped, with some of the 2.9L models rated as low as 1900lbs. The 1992 model Jayco Jay King 6 I found had a weight of 2625lbs, so I would recommend that you check your owners manual for the specific rating on your truck. Even with weight distribution or sway control, the trailer may be too heavy for the vehicle.
If you do confirm that the trailer weight is within the vehicle towing capacity, then you could add the # 83660 friction sway control if you feel that the trailer is swaying too much while you tow it.
I am including links to a video showing a typical installation and an FAQ with information on sway control and weight distribution, if needed.
