Will the Rhino-Rack MountainTrail Bike Carrier Work with My Factory Crossbars on a 2012 Equinox?
Question:
I have 2012 Chevy Equinox with factory installed roof rack and Aero style cross bars. Which fork mounted bike carrier will work? Looks like the Rhino-Rack MountainTrail Rooftop Bike Carrier - Fork Mount Item # RBC035 can work. Please advise

Expert Reply:
The Rhino-Rack MountainTrail Rooftop Bike Carrier - Fork Mount # RBC035 will work with your aero-style crossbars as long as your crossbars are equal to or less than 3-1/8 inches wide x 1-3/16 inches tall. In order to make sure that the MountainTrail can clamp around your crossbars, I recommend that you measure the dimensions of the crossbars on your 2012 Chevy Equinox.
If you discover that your aero-style crossbars exceed the maximum width and height that is compatible with the MountainTrail, I recommend the Thule ProRide XT Roof Bike Rack - Frame Mount - Clamp On or Channel Mount - Aluminum # TH598004. The Thule ProRide XT will be compatible with your crossbars if your crossbars have top channels (as long as your channels are equal to or less than 20mm x 20mm). The Thule ProRide also has a higher maximum weight capacity (44 pounds) compared to the MountainTrail (35 pounds).
