Is a Slider 5th Wheel Hitch Needed for Short Bed Ram

Question:

I have a 2019 Ram 3500 short and I will be purchasing a Columbus 389fl in August. The dealership is telling me the regular bandw companion hitch will work fine with the short bed but I can’t help worry that I should get the bandw slider instead. I would rather have the reg companion because of the amount of space the slider takes up in my bed but I don’t want to damage my truck on a tight turn. Thoughts? Thanks

The Columbus 5th Wheel 389FL has a tapered nose, this design feature on 5th wheels will sometimes allow enough cab clearance without the need for a slide hitch or use of a rotating turret pin box such as the Reese Sidewinder, # RP34FR. If the dealership is assuring you that there is not need for a slide hitch such as the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider for Ram Towing Prep Package, # BWRVK3670 and, you prefer the B&W Companion, # BWRVK3600; have them show you the measurements against their RV to be assured. But yes, you may very well not need the slider type hitch.
