Is Trailair Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box LC328484 Compatible With 5th Wheel Hitch With Pivoting Head?
Question:
I have a 2016 Ram 6.7 Diesel 4X4 Dually Airbagged with factory pucks and the Curt 18K pivoting head 5th wheel hitch. My question is, how well or not, will the Flex Air Roto pin box work with my setup? Wouldn’t that be an issue? I drive semi trucks and any time we hook to and pull an end-dump trailer, either the trucks 5th wheel gets pinned so it can’t move from front to rear/up and down or the trailers coupler plate gets pinned. You can’t have both with pivoting heads as this is a severe issue with disastrous results. Very interested in this pin box for my 2015 Montana High Country 353RL, yet have concern regarding duel pivoting heads. I’m also having the suspension replaced on the trailer with the MorRyde independent suspension the last day of February/first day of March of 2022. Already have my appointment set up. Will this pinbox, provided it will work make the ride even better? Do you have an alternative solution? I’m a repeating customer of yours. Love the products offered and services provided. Keep it up.

Thank you for the kind words!
I reached out to my contact at Trailair and the Trailair Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert 0719 - 18,000 lbs # LC328484 you were looking at will work just fine with your Curt 5th wheel hitch that has a pivoting head.
The vast majority of 5th wheel hitches have pivoting heads so the Trailair was designed to work with them. The one thing he mentioned to watch out for is if your Curt hitch has a 360 degree articulating head and it is worn a bit then chucking may still be felt. The best choice for a hitch with this pin box is one that only pivots fore and aft like the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Slide Bar Jaw - 16,000 lbs # C16115, but one with 360 degree articulation will still work.
Now the # LC328484 you were looking at is designed to replace the Lippert 0719 pin boxes, so you will need to verify which pin box your 2015 Montana High Country 353RL has. You can do this by looking for the four digit model number on the pin box, or if it is missing just send me a picture of the pin box serial number sticker and I would be happy to identify it for you.
This pin box will work perfectly with the MORryde suspension upgrades you are having added to your trailer, and will offer that much smoother of a ride due to its pivoting head and air bag/shock that do a great job of absorbing road shock.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
