Does Computer of 2021 Toyota 4Runner Need Reprogramming After Brake Controller Installation
Question:
I have been told the vehicle computer will need to be reprogrammed by Toyota when using this controller. Is this true?

You won't need to reprogram the computer to install the Redarc # RED44FR Tow Pro Elite or any other brake controller on your 2021 4Runner.
Can I make a suggestion? The # RED44FR Tow Pro Elite you'd looked at features both a proportional and a user-controlled mode. The user-controlled mode makes the controller act like a time-delayed brake controller. Unless you're planning on doing some overland towing, you'll never ever need that feature and would be better off going with the all-proportional Tow Pro Liberty, part # RED24FR which is considerably less expensive. If you went that route, you wouldn't be paying extra for a feature you don't need.
Since your 4Runner has the factory tow package with the 7-way on the back bumper, the installation would be plug and play, using the # RED49FR wiring harness. The harness would plug into the tow package connector located above the dead pedal just above the kick panel. I'd also recommend a # 331-TPSI-002 mounting bezel for a factory installed appearance (see linked installation video).
