Does Ram 3500 Need Weight Distribution Towing Heartland Torque T32
Question:
Hello. I am the new owner of a Heartland Torque T32 travel trailer, 2019. I own a 2015 Ram 3500, Crew Shortbed Cummins with Aisin. I have towed alot of ATV trailers and smaller campers, but never a larger trailer like the T32. I have shopped for a GenY 30K plus hitch for a while, but the dealership is really recommending a WDH, but cant really tell me why. The truck and trailer all match within required specs, and the tongue weight of the trailer should not really cause rear end sag. Do I need a WDH hitch? Will a Gen Y hitch suffice for safety, especially towing mountains of Colorado and national forest dirt roads? Thanks

Your Heartland Torque T32 travel trailer is pretty heavy and while your 2015 Ram 3500 diesel is definitely a great tow vehicle choice you still would benefit from a weight distribution system. One rule of thumb with WD systems is that if the trailer weighs more than half of the vehicle it's recommended or if there is excessive sag. Either way though a WD system will improve handling and braking due to it putting more weight on the front axle of the tow vehicle which is the one that does the steering and the vast majority of the braking.
So an Equal-i-zer system like the part # EQ37120ET would be a really great option that maybe you wouldn't absolutely need but it would give you a safer and easier to manage towing experience. This would work much better than a cushioned Gen-Y ball mount setup.
