Recommended Solution for Yakima HoldUp and Marin 29-er That Is Too Long
Question:
Would the rear wheel tray assembly for the EVO rack fit into the metal end profile of the standard HoldUp rack? I have the 2inch HOLDUP rack. My 29-er Marin Rift Zone hangs off the back of the rear-wheel tray and pulls the front wheel out of its tray. So the bike is uncomfortably unstable on this rack. A longer metal bar, or, an extended rear-wheel tray like the EVO has will work wonders for this. Ill post a pic in the near future to show how the bike barely sits on the rack.

I may have a solution for you, but the # 8880832 isn't going to fit into the end on your Yakima HoldUp with a 2" shank; it may look like you could get it into the end but there's not a hole for a pin to be installed even if it did fit, so there's not a way to secure the rear wheel holder. I checked with my tech contact at Yakima to see if they had any ideas for what you're dealing with and unfortunately there's not a way to adapt your HoldUP to work with a bike with larger tires and a wider wheelbase, which it sounds like is the crux of the issue here.
For this reason, in order to safely carry your bike you will need a new rack and the Yakima HoldUp EVO # Y02479 for 2" hitch would allow you to carry a bike with 29" tires and up to 48" wheelbase. This would be a reasonable upgrade to your current HoldUp and allow you to safely carry your bike.
If your Marin 29-er has wider than a 48" wheelbase then I recommend using the Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # TH83JV, which can carry bikes with up to a 50-1/2" wheelbase and 29" tires; this is the largest wheel mounting bike rack we have available and would be the best available wheel mounting option.
I've linked some reviews of these racks for you to check out.
