Does Computer have to be Reset to Use a Brake Controller on a 2010 Dodge Ram w/Factory Controller

Question:

I found a single multi wire connector, but the oem controller . ..has ports for two connectors. I have read that I need the dealer to flash the ecu before it will work...none of the lights lite up on the controller. Have I missed something or must zi take it the dealer before it will work? I have the tow package with the dual 4/7 pin connector.

To install an aftermarket brake controller on a 2010 Dodge Ram in place of the factory controller there are a few steps.

To install an aftermarket brake control you will have to disconnect the ITBM, this will turn on a warning lamp, on the instrument cluster. In order to disconnect the ITBM and not get the warning lamp, your local Dodge dealer will have to reconfigure the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module), of the truck. Once the TIPM has been reconfigured, and the ITBM has been unplugged, you can use a vehicle specific brake control harness such as the Tekonsha # 3021-P.

To disconnect the ITBM, you will need to contact the Business Center to remove the sales code (XHC). The TIPM will need to be reconfigured. Once the sales code has been disabled you can disconnect the ITBM electrical connector, under the dash, without getting the warning lamp.

Make sure that you are plugged into the correct spot on the vehicle since you have indicated there are multiple connectors. The connector for # 3021-P is located under the dash to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.
