The Draw-Tite Class III Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75140 is the one I recommend for your 2001 Dodge 2500 Van. It is designed to fit both the step bumper and standard bumpers that came from the factory on your Van. The receiver is rated for 500lbs of tongue weight and 5,000lbs towing with a standard trailer hitch and with weight distribution hitches capacity doubles to 1,000lbs of tongue weight and 10,000lbs of trailer weight.
A etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Stabilizer # e99007 will remove the hitch rattle from either a hitch mounted accessory or the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. This kit includes 2 separate ball mounts with different drops/rise and a 1-7/8" ball or 2" ball for the trailer coupler.
The 4-Pole Hardwire Kit with Circuit Tester # 18252 will allow you to tap into the factory wiring on your van to add a 4-way flat connector. If you will need to tow a larger trailer that requires trailer brakes a Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 will allow you to install the appropriate wiring and a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. This proportional brake controller will automatically adjust for light or heavy braking and is customizable.
