Bolting Convert-A-Ball 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5G to 5th Wheel Pin Box

Question:

I know the instructions say NO need to drill and bolt to trailer plate, but it seems hard to believe? Can you really just hook this up without bolting on to the king pin plate?

As long as the set screws that attach the collar to the king pin are evenly tightened so that the surface of each set screw is flush with the collar, and the cap screws that secure the collar to the adapter are correctly torqued to the rating mentioned in the instructions, Convert-A-Ball states that it is not necessary to bolt the hitch plate to the pin box. In fact, they specifically guarantee that if correctly installed the adapter will not separate from the king pin.

Because of the additional stresses involved, bolting the hitch plate to the pin box IS required if the offset adapter, part # CAB-C5GX1216 is used.

If it would make you feel more secure, you can certainly bolt the hitch plate to your pin box. Convert-A-Ball will provide the bolt kit to you for no additional charge if you contact them at 800-543-1732.
