What Extra Straps Can I Use with My 2014 Nissan Versa Note?

Question:

If I cut the rubber strip in the crossbar channel to go around the eye bolts, will that let water go down in the crossbar channel and rust it out? And… could I use heavy duty bungee cords ( hooks on their ends) to hook in the eye bolts.. instead of ratchet straps?

I have a solution for you. The weight of the Rhino-Rack Rooftop Cargo Bag - Waterproof - 7 cu ft - 55" x 19-1/2" x 11-1/2" # RRLB200 is about 6 pounds.

As far as the straps, I saw from your previous orders that you ordered Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero crossbars # RRVA118B-2 from us. Usually, the Rhino-Rack Rooftop Cargo Bag is made to attach to the car's factory rail system. If your vehicle has a bare roof, we do not have a way to attach the side straps to your 2014 Nissan Versa Note's doors. However, I recommend two sets of the Eyebolts for Rhino-Rack Aero/Sportz Crossbars - Qty 2 # S604. The eye bolts can be secured anywhere on the t-channels on your crossbars. With the eye bolts on your Vorex Aero Crossbars, you will be able to fasten down your cargo bag with the Rhino-Rack Cam Buckle Cinch Straps with S-Hooks for Eye Bolts - 118" Long - Qty 2 # RRRTDH3.

I confirmed with Rhino-Rack that the rustproof chemicals they use for the outside of the bars are also sprayed inside the T-channels to prevent rust if water gets in. Also, they suggested that you do not have to fully remove the entire rubber strips from the channel; you just have to cut out a portion of it to fit the eye bolts. The rest of surrounding channel can have the rubber strips. As far as the heavy duty bungee cords, those will work well with the eye bolts if there is enough tension that tightens down on the cargo bag.
