How to Lower a Weight Distribution System After Adding a Leaf Spring to the Towing Vehicle
Question:
I bought the Fastway e2 trunnion WDH 1,000 lbs rating and still had a bit of a squat on my 6 year old Tundra. I have been using it almost exclusively for towing since new. I upgraded from an old Equalizer chain type WDH. Tongue weight is 650 lbs empty, 900 lbs loaded so within Toyota specs for a class 4 hitch. I had a mechanic look at my Tundra and his said the springs were getting tired. So today I had a leaf added. WELL....the truck sits level without the WDH but according to Toyota I need one because I can only have 500 lbs of weight on the hitch without one. That isnt the only problem. I have to move the ball mount one hold down on the hitch shank from where it has sat before level before load because now the trailer is nose-up. How can I make this new WDH work with the added spring?

If adding the spring did get the vehicle level, but has messed with how the trailer sits, you can add a shank that will sit lower than the one that came with your weight distribution system. I suggest going with the Reese # RP69FR as this will have up to 4 inches of drop as opposed to the stock 1 inch drop. This is also rated up to 1,200 pounds of tongue weight.
