Should Trailer Breakaway Kit Cause Assemblies to Hum
Question:
Hello, I have a 2011 Coachmen Clipper Sport 107 Tent Trailer. When I apply my trailer brakes manually from the controller, I can hear the humming from the trailer brakes which I assume is the magnets activating. I can also feel the trailer brakes applying and functioning normally when I’m driving by manual application of the controller, and just by normal stopping of the vehicle. When I disconnect the trailer from the vehicle, I pulled the breakaway switch to test it, and I do not hear the humming sound coming from the electric trailer brakes. I even replaced the breakaway switch and confirmed power is arriving at the switch. Are the brakes still suppose to make a humming sound when activating the breakaway switch, with the trailer not in motion? Thanks for your help!

The breakaway setup should still activate the brakes to the point you can hear the magnets hum. The fact you can't hear yours means your setup isn't working currently. It's possible you have a dead breakaway battery or the wiring has issues but I attached a help article on troubleshooting breakaway systems for you to check out as well.
