Troubleshooting Curt TriFlex C24VV Having L.b and Error Codes

Question:

I check adjustments for my curt L.5 and 6.0 Is coming up on the screen - -, then l.7. I checked my three brake lights , all ok. I unplugged my module and waited for about 30 secs , plugged back in and was flashing 6.0 as I tested the brakes it showed on the display 2.5. When I check my adjustments it is still the same. Not sure if brakes are working it feels like the truck is stopping my camper. Thanks

I would be happy to help you troubleshoot the braking issues you are having with your Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV.

There is not a L.5 error code programed into the controller but there is an L.b which indicates low voltage powering the controller. Then the -- you mentioned means that the battery is not giving enough voltage for the controller to work properly.

Since you are getting both of these codes I recommend double checking the black power wire for the # C24VV. If you hardwired the controller make sure you have at least 12 gauge wire running from the black wire to a 20 amp circuit breaker if your trailer has 1-2 braking axles, or 30 amp circuit breaker if your trailer has 2-4 braking axles. From the circuit breaker there needs to be a wire going directly to the positive terminal of the battery.

Check that this wire does not have any damage causing it to loose some voltage, and that the connections to the circuit breaker and battery are tight.

If your controller is installed by a custom fit plug-in adapter I recommend removing the adapter and verifying that none of the pins are bent, and that no debris made its way into the connector. If everything is good then there are a few options. The first is taking the vehicle into a local dealership to check where and why the power wire is getting such low voltage.

The second option is bypassing the factory power wire using the # 5506. This kit includes the wire needed to power the controller, and the circuit breakers to match the number of breaking assemblies your trailer has.
