Stromberg-Carlson Replacement Follow Jack for 5th Wheel Landing Gear Models LG-1 and LG-183708
Question:
Do you have to weld these replacement jacks or are they bolt on? Are they heavy duty enough to replace the one on my 35foot Cardinal 5th Wheel?

The Stromberg-Carlson Replacement Follow Jack for 5th Wheel Landing Gear, part # LG-179014, is a replacement for the non-driven side of the # LG-1 powered landing gear and # LG-183708 manual landing gear. Both of these landing gear products use weld-on installation and both have a 6000-lb weight rating.
According to my research on the Forest River website, the Cardinal 35-foot 5th wheel trailer model 3030RS has a dry tongue weight of 2,550 lbs. A set of landing gear rated for 6000 lbs will be sufficient to stabilize this trailer even after accounting for water and LP gas tanks being filled. The manufacturer notes that the landing gear are not to be used to raise or lower the trailer; they are intended only to stabilize it in a level position. Other safety concerns regarding the landing gear on your 5th wheel will be outlined in your owners manual, where you can also confirm the actual tongue weight for your specific trailer.
We do offer bolt-on landing gear sets for 5th wheels. The Bulldog Tandem Landing Gear Set, part # BD500162, offers an 8000-lb capacity, bolts to the front of your trailer frame (under the overhang) and has a telescoping connecting rod to allow flexibility in mounting the two sides of the jack. This product bolts on with included brackets and hardware but does require drilling. The required hand crank is sold separately, as part # BD500203.
