I have a 2018 GC Altitude. My runners are matte black, solid no slots and I cannot find how those work.

Many times, this style of flush factory side rails have fixed mounting points in the oval openings of the rails. Sometimes the manufacturer will put a small tab over the ovals that should be removed in order to mount a roof rack system. We do make roof racks that are compatible for this style of roof rack system on your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
