Trailer Hitch Receiver Recommendation and Wiring For a 1990 Ford F-350 Ambulance

Question:

I just picked up a 1990 Ford F-350 Ambulance. I’m looking to get a rear hitch, do you have anything that’d fit?

For your 1990 Ford F-350 Ambulance I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14082. This receiver is specifically designed for the cab and chassis like that which your Ambulance was built on. This receiver is rated for 1,000lbs of tongue weight and 10,000lbs of trailer. If you use a weight distribution hitch the rating increases to 1,200lbs of tongue weight and 12,000lbs of trailer weight.

If you plan on doing any towing and do not have any trailer connection wiring already on your Ambulance you will need the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C55316 to give you a 4-way flat connection for small trailers.

For larger trailers with electric brakes you will also need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 along with a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. This will allow you to control up to 4 braking axles that use electric brakes or electric over hydraulic brakes. The controller is customizable and includes a diagnostic function if you have any issues with the trailer brakes.
