Can the Yakima EXO System Be Used With A Hitch Extender

Question:

I have a 2003 Chevy Roadtrek Express Van body with a rear mounted spare tire and a 2inch hitch. Im looking for a bike rack + cargo rack. To clear the spare tire I would need to use a hitch extender. Can a hitch extender be used with this rack? Thank you!

Helpful Expert Reply:

Adding a hitch extender will reduce the maximum tongue weight of your hitch receiver by 50%. The Yakima EXO System with 2 Bike Rack and Enclosed Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches, part # Y34ZR, weighs 166lbs, empty. If the reduced maximum tongue weight will still exceed the weight of the Yakima EXO System and the gear you plan to carry, you should not have any problems. I recommend the Hitch Extender For 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver 7", part # HE06. With this extender your vehicles maximum tongue weight will be the lowest value between your existing hitch receivers reduced maximum tongue weight and the maximum tongue weight of the extender, which is 350lbs.

I have included product description links and a video review link below.
