How To Carry Thule Hullavator And A Second Kayak Carrier On 2010 Mercury Mariner

Question:

I am considering purchasing the malone airflow 2 and some Hullavator parts for my 898 pro kayak rack. I have a 2010 Mercury Mariner Hybrid and the fitting guide says a 50inch and a 58inch bar will fit. I cannot tell what a 58 inch would look like on my car as to how much it will stick out past the car. Also would the 50inch stick out enough for the hullavator to clear the sides of my car and wouild it leave enough room for my Glide and set kayak rack that is on the roof now.? My last question and this can make it a lot easier ....If I want to trim the 58inch by cutting a piece off the end....if this can be done I can get it cut straight. Since I do not have a crossbar I cannot tell if I can do it and replace the end caps that I see in your images. I did ask a few questions and hopefully you can answer them so I can go ahead and purchase all the crossbars and all the Hullavator parts I need. Thank you

The Thule Hullavator # TH898 requires at least 4" overhang on each side of the crossbar so will need to measure the space between your roof rails. If this distance is 50" or less then the 58" Malone AirFlow Crossbars # MPG216 will be best; this will likely work but you will need to verify. Technically you could cut these crossbars to make them shorter if you wanted, but just make sure you have at least 4" of overhang on each side.

If you happen to have 42" or less distance between the roof rails then you could use the 50" Malone Airflow Crossbars # MPG215, but I doubt this will work for your application.

I recommend going with the longer 58" version if you want to try to fit a second kayak on top. I can't say for sure if you will have room for your other kayak as it really depends on the width of the kayak. The Thule Hullavator takes up 28.5" of crossbar space so you will be left with about 29.5" to try and fit the second kayak. I attached demonstration videos for you.
