Will Curt C40047 RockerBall Shock Absorbing Hitch Ball Eliminate Most Hitch Rattling

Question:

I pull a pontoon with a 2021 Highlander thats fitted with OEM receiver hitch. The hitch rattles and bangs with acceleration and braking, but Im under the assumption that its the ball mount inside the receiver, multiplied by the surge brake actuator on the trailer tongue. Will the Curt RockerBall effectively mitigate any of that push-pull action on the ball mount or is that just the way its going to be, without a ball mount stabilizer inside the receiver channel?

Going with the # C40047 Curt Rocker Ball will help isolate some of the clattering and banging from the surge coupler, and it will also help dampen some of the road shock you experience. What it won't do is help with the movement of the ball mount in the receiver which is pretty unavoidable. Due to manufacturing tolerances, it isn't possible to get a tight fit between the ball mount and receiver, right out of the box. If the fit was too tight the ball mount would eventually become stuck in the receiver and would be difficult to remove.

For the connection between the ball mount and the hitch, I'd recommend an anti-rattle device like # e99007 which forces the shank of the hitch accessory or ball mount up against the inside of the receiver tube and holds it in place so it doesn't move around. The # e99007 is very highly rated by our customers and is pretty inexpensive as well.

I've linked you to demonstration videos for the Rocker Ball and the anti-rattle device I recommended.
