Venture Landing Gear is Blowing Fuses

Question:

Our camper started blowing the in line 30 Amp fuse 3 weeks ago. I found the plastic gear box was broken so the motor moved when engaged to move the legs. I replaced the broken plastic gear box with a metal one from your company. Great and easy to put in.. Nothing is flopping around any more however I am still blowing fuses. I checked all electric connections with nothing found. I did note the motor starts out strong but sounds as though it is getting weaker as it runs. Then blows a fuse. Any thoughts as to why?

So the reason landing gear is blowing fuses is because of an overdraw on the circuit. This can often happen with a bad gearbox causing the motor to work too hard, so you did the right thing in replacing it with the # LC276602. The wiring is the next main culprit, and though you said you checked that, just going over it again - especially your grounds - and making sure they are very solid is something I recommend doing, just to be safe.

The next possible issue is that your battery is not fully charged, and what happens here is that the motor will not operate but will tend to heat up, along with the fuse, causing it to short out. A good battery charger like the CTEK MULTI US 7002 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger # CTEK56353 is a good idea to have on hand if you don't have one.

Other than that, the only other issue that may be occurring is the motor is bad and needs replacing. This is the priciest fix though, which is why I recommend double-checking and tracing the wiring for any damage or a poor ground, as well as checking the battery. Otherwise, if need be you can replace the motor with the Lippert Venture 5th Wheel RV Landing Gear Motor # LC142178.
