Troubleshooting Running Lights and Trailer Brakes Not Working When Connected To 2019 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I have a 2004 cargo trailer and can not get my 2019 Silverado to work the clearance lights and brakes. However, everything works on any other truck I hook up to the trailer.

I would be happy to help.

Since you have identified that the issue is on your 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 since the trailer works when you connect it to other trucks, I would first check your trucks connector for any debris or corrosion that could be causing the connection issue on these two circuits.

Next for the running lights you will need to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the 11 o'clock pin while you have the head lights of your truck turned on. If you do not get power, I recommend checking fuse 41 as it may be blow causing you to not get power.

Moving on to the trailer brakes, assuming that you have a trailer brake controller hook up the trailer and have a friend apply the manual override lever while you test the wire in the back of the connector going to the 5 o'clock pin. If you do not have power then I recommend checking Fuse 84 as it is the power for the trailer brake controller.

If you do not have a trailer brake controller you will need to install one. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 as it is an extremely reliable controller with great features like an easy to read LCD screen and built in diagnostics that are easy to read and understand. To install the controller you will need plug-in adapter # 3064-P which will plug into the # 90195 and then into the factory trailer brake controller port underneath the dash of your truck.

I included videos of the products mentioned, and a link to a helpful article on wiring for you to take a look at.
