Why Did 225/75-15 Tires on 5th Wheel Fail In One Day

Question:

My sidewall states 90psi maximum cold. They are on my 2020 5th wheel Winnebago 27rlts. Just purchased after 2cGoodride tires failed in 1day. I just want to know what recommended cold tire psi I should run with my Carlisle All Steel tiresinch when the trailer load decal states: 5100 lbs per axle with Goodride ST225/75R15 load tires at 80 max cold psi.

You'll want to keep your tires inflated to the maximum pressure listed on the tire sidewall, this goes for any trailer tire unless the tire manufacturer does load testing at various pressures.

The main cause of premature tire failure is excessive heat build-up, which can be caused by:

• Underinflation. Always keep trailer tires inflated to the max pressure listed on the sidewall (except for the
exception mentioned above.

• Overloading the tire. Ideally, you want the combined load capacity of your tires to equal or exceed the
GVWR of your RV.

• Exceeding the speed rating of the tire.

• A bent spindle or axle or worn or damaged suspension components can also cause tires to fail
prematurely.

If you use a quality tire like the Westlake 225/75-15, part # LHWL304 which would have a 5660 lb per axle capacity when fully inflated to the recommended 80 psi pressure, and observe/check the cautions listed above you shouldn't have further problems with blowouts. Also, this tire comes with complimentary roadside assistance for 2 years. If your RV or trailer has a flat tire, call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico.
