Expert Reply:
Yes, the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75715 will work for your 2012 Nissan NV 2500. Your Nissan will have a tow rating between 7000lbs and 9500lbs. You can contact Nissan for your exact tow rating by VIN number. The Draw-tite will allow for up to 7,000lbs towing and 1,125lbs of tongue weight. If you are using a weight distribution hitch the ratings are 10,000lbs towing and 1,000lbs of tongue weight.
You will want to verify the weights of both your VW Passat and U-Haul trailer but I saw an average Passat to be around 3,500lbs and the trailer to be 2,210lbs. These are well below your towing limits of the vehicle and the hitch.
The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56148 will give you a 4-way trailer connector on your Nissan.
For towing the car hauler trailer you will need a 7-way with brake controller. The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 will allow you to install a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. This proportional brake controller is very user friendly as it will automatically adjust for light or heavy braking. It also has diagnostic features to help you if there are any issues with the trailer brakes.
