New 7 Inch Brake Assemblies Leaking
Question:
I just bought the dexter 7” brake assembly, installed, and everything was working fine. Just headed up north from CA to WA on a road trip. Two days in when I left Mammoth, the brakes were leaking from inside at the bottom of the hub. I’m guessing without removing the wheels that the wheel cylinder has gone bad. What’s weird is they are both brand new and they are both leaking. Could they be faulty? Any idea what could have gone bad? I installed these on a 1991 Rockwood pop up camper.

Where exactly is the leak? If it's on the back of the brake assembly, inboard of the wheel it's probably not the cylinder. The likelihood of two bad wheel cylinders right out of the box is pretty rare. A more likely cause would be bleeder screws that aren't completely tight, so that's where I'd start my search there. Also make sure that the brake line connection at the wheel cylinder is secure.
If the leak is inside the brake drum, then it would indicate a faulty wheel cylinder which means that the brake assemblies are bad and should be replaced. If you purchased the brake assemblies from us, you'd want to call our Customer Service folks at 800-298-8924 to arrange for replacement.
