1,500 lb or 1,000 lb SumoSprings For 2016 Ram 1500 With Weight Distribution

Question:

Hello, I am currently looking at some SumoSprings for my 2016 Ram 1500 4WD. I have a camper that I am towing with a 6100 lbs dry weight and even though the weight distribution hitch helps tremendously, I still fell like it sags too much in the rear probably 3, maybe more. Even without a trailer I feel like the truck squats too much when I put more than a couple hundred pounds in the bed. I feel like the SumoSprings would help with this, but I am uncertain on if I should get the SSR-307-40 Blue 1000lb or the SSR-307-47 Black 1500lb. I want to aid with the rear sag, but I also don't want the truck riding rough when I'm not hauling anything. What would you recommend? Thank you!

Thanks for all that info it was definitely helpful, and we can get your 2016 Ram 1500 set up with the right SumoSprings. You are right about the SumoSprings being something that will help your truck, and between the 1,500 lb SumoSprings # SSR-307-47 and 1,000 lb SumoSprings # SSR-307-40, I recommend going with the 1,000 lb option:

- SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-307-40

The reason for that is you mentioned you already had a weight distribution system, and that you didn't want to truck to ride rough when you weren't hauling. Since these SumoSprings are the same but for their weight capacity, the higher-rated 1,500 lb springs can make the ride rougher when not hauling than the 1,000 lb springs, and the 1,000 lb springs are more than enough for when you are putting a load in the bed.

Also, I do have to mention that you should really be mostly level with a weight distribution hitch, and while the SumoSprings will help, if you are sagging 3 inches with the hitch set up, you may not have the properly rated system. The right weight distribution system would be one in which your loaded tongue weight falls somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity. For example, if your loaded tongue weight was 850 lbs you would want the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution # BXW1000, which is rated for tongue weights between 750 lbs and 1,000 lbs.
