Tekonsha P3 Electronic or Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake Controller for 2018 Honda Ridgeline
Question:
Will either the Tekonsha P3 Electronic or Tekonsha Primus IQ brake controller work on a 2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL? Thanks!

Expert Reply:
Since brake controllers aren't a vehicle-specific item, either the # TK90160 Primus or the # 90195 P3 would work great with your 2018 Ridgeline.
There are four primary differences between the Primus and the P3.
• The P3 is compatible with both electric and electric over hydraulic trailer brakes, while the Primus is for
electric brakes only.
• The Primus uses a alpa-numeric LED display, while the P3 uses a LCD that's more intuitive, that will
actually display any brake system errors in English, Spanish or French, rather than an error code that
you'll need to look up like the Primus. The P3 is easier to use, and is more user-friendly.
• The Primus needs to be mounted so that it's between level and 90º up or down, while the P3 can be
mounted in a 360º vertical plane, as long as it's level side to side and pointed in the direction of travel.
• The P3 has 5 storable presets, to allow for different trailers, different trailers or driver preferences. You
won't need to re-adjust the controller each time you switch trailers.
The controller you choose would be a plug and play install. You'll also need the # 3070-P brake control harness which plugs into a connector located underneath the dash and left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the brake pedal. If you don't have the 7-way trailer connector, you'll need to install one using part # 118253. The # 118253 includes the fuses and relays needed to activate the tow package.
I've linked to a video showing a P3 being installed on a 2nd Gen Ridgeline like yours.
