Recommended Hitch to Carry Bikes with 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan
Question:
Hi, I was wondering if this hitch would be to best choice to use with a hitch mount bike rack. I see under the specs that the maximum tongue weight is 350 lbs. Im pretty sure the max weight of two or even three bikes including the rack would have to be less than 350 lbs. Would this hitch work for that? Thanks

The etrailer Class III hitch you mentioned, part # 75658 would work very well for carrying a bike rack.
Since the average bike weighs 30-35 lbs you should have no problem finding a 2,3 or 4 bike rack that would work well for you.
The Swagman Trailhead is a good mid-priced rack available in a 2 bike (# S63360) 3 bike (# S63365) or 4 bike (# S63380) models.
To carry womens bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like part # 64005 is recommended. The adapter spans the distance between the seat post and the handle bar gooseneck, and provides a level attachment point to the bike rack so the bike has greater ground clearance and is not carried at an angle.
