Installing the Tekonsha Primus IQ on a 2019 Traverse With Factory Tow Package
Question:
I have an older Primus controller that I bought from etrailer for a Honda Pilot in about 2012. I want to move it to my 2019 Traverse. It has the tow package but does not have a plug and play connector. I was going to cut the plug off the old Honda adapter and wire it up to the wires that are behind the plastic panel on the drivers side foot well. Ive read where people are having power issues but I havent been able to ascertain the exact fix. Any suggestions?

There have been some issues with installing aftermarket brake controllers on the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse models that already have the factory towing package. This does not mean it is impossible, however.
Those four blunt cut wires inside the front driver side instrument panel are definitely the correct wires. Page 284 of your owner's manual will tell you which wire handles which function. You will need to check the "Battery Feed" wire to make sure it has power with something like the circuit tester # PTW2993. This is where most of the issues pop up as there is not always all the wires run to power this. If there is indeed no power, you will need to install the wiring kit # 5506. This will supply power to the brake controller and to the 7 Way if needed.
On your Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160, the white wire is ground, black is 12-volt power in, red is input from the brake switch, and blue is output to the trailer brakes. Just splice in the brake controller wires to the tow package wire bundle by function.
