Bike Rack And 2" Receiver Hitch Recommendation For 2020 Mazda CX-5

Question:

Hi. I have a Mazda CX-5 signature 2020 that I will hire to have a 2” hitch welded. I need a 2 bike rack which folds, and tilts and is secure. 1st bike is a Electra townie step thru with fenders which weighs approximately 56 lbs. 2nd bike is a standard men’s mountain bike with mud guards. Would you share with me my choices in order of your favorites? Also if you have any specifications I need to give to the hitch installer. Thanks SO MUCH for your advice. Laurie

Bike racks have different requirement ratings when it comes to the hitches they'll be installed in. Most receiver hitch bike racks require a Class II or Class III hitch so I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" Item # 76138 has a maximum tongue weight of 675lbs and a maximum gross trailer weight of 4,500lbs.

Of the two I recommend the RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 Bike Platform Rack # RKY11404 as it has a wider range for wheel size without having to buy an adapter, is rated for use on motorhomes as well unlike the Kuat rack, and weighs 8lbs less than the Kuat rack.
