Upgrading Fastway Weight Distribution Hitch For a Larger Travel Trailer

Question:

Hello, We tow with a 2019 Toyota 4Runner and use to have a 2017 Forest River Rpod 178 which we recently sold. We are purchasing a 2021.5 Rockwood Geopro 20BHS. I removed the weight distribution hitch from our Rpod and I am going to install it on our new Geopro. My question is, will our current weight distribution hitch work with our new Geopro as far as is it the correct weighted one. The one we have is part number 94-00-0600 Fast Way e2 Weight-Distribution Hitch - Round Bar - 6K which we purchased from you guys years ago. Worked great on the Rpod but i do know the Geopro is a little heavier overall and has more tongue weight. Should i upgrade or is the one is have perfect and safe to use. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The 2021.5 Rockwood Geopro 20BHS has an unloaded tongue weight of 455lbs. The maximum cargo capacity of the trailer is an additional 842lbs and GVWR of 4,355lbs. I feel that if you are able to limit the weight and distribute the cargo weight evenly front to back that you will be able to stay below the 600lb maximum of the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA94-00-0600.

I recommend to change out the Round Spring Bar # FA94-02-0899. Two of these are designed for trailers with 400-800lbs of tongue weight. This will ensure that you don't overload the bars that you currently have. And best of all you do not have to replace the entire hitch to upgrade to these bars.

I do believe the Rockwood will require a 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # EQ91-00-6100 where the Rpod only used a 2" ball. Be sure to check with your dealer for what is needed.
