Can you Carry the Kuat Transfer V2 and the Pivot on a 2021 Mercedes-Benz Metris

Question:

I’m interested in using a Kuat Transfer V2 for 3 bikes on my 2021 Mercedes Metris Getaway with a rear lift gate. It will have the factory installed hitch. I would like to use a swing away arm to gain access to the back of the van. I might add on to the V2 in the future to carry a fourth bike. I’m concerned about the capacity of the factory hitch to support all of this weight particularly when the Kuat pivot states something about a 50 reduction in capacity. Is this reduced capacity something particular to just the Kuat, or does this apply to all swing arms?

If you'd like to use the Kuat Transfer V2, part # KU24FR, with the Pivot, part # PVP20B, then you are correct that this will reduce your hitch's capacity by 50%. This is not specific to just Kuat. The use of any adapter/extender on your hitch will reduce the hitch's capacity (usually by 50%).

Of course, you may still be alright to still use this combination. The hitches we have available for the 2021 Mercedes-Benz Metris have a maximum tongue weight of at least 750 pounds. Reducing that by 50% will still give you 375 pounds to work with. The Transfer V2 plus the Pivot will still leave you with 278 pounds for your bikes (375 - 51 - 46 = 278). The Kuat can handle 40 pounds per bike.

Still, you will need to consult your owner's manual to ensure that your Metris and the hitch have that much capacity to start with.

I've linked to video reviews of these two parts below.
