Troubleshooting NC Notification on Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885
Question:
Have P2 and having problems getting it to work. In electric mode when the manual switch is activated all I get is NC. If I put in the electric over hydraulic mode I can get a reading when the manual switch is activated. My question is since I do not have electric over hydraulic but have a electric only system, can electric over hydraulic be used on a electric only system? Thanks for any info.

It is recommended that you not use the electric-over-hydraulic setting on your Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 on electric-only brakes as this may cause the brake controller to work improperly. There are a couple issues that could be occurring when the NC, meaning Not Connected, pops up on this brake controller. Some common causes are corrosion on the pins or where the wires attach on the trailer and tow vehicle connectors, brake magnet wiring, or a bad controller.
To determine if the controller may be bad, sever the blue wire a few inches back from the controller and use a circuit tester, like # PTW2993 to test the end coming out of the controller. It should only show power with the manual override. If it shows power any other time, it is usually a bad controller.
Your brake (blue) wire also might not be attached properly or there is a power back feed on that wire. Another issue could be that the brake circuit has incorrect resistance on electric brakes or the ground wire may not be connected properly.
You can test whether or not the ground or brake wires are connected properly with the # 40376. You will use the tester, after properly grounding it, to probe each wire connection. If you are getting a current, a light on the tester will activate. You will also want to ensure all connections are free of moisture, corrosion, and dirt as this could be the culprit as well.
I have provided a link to the installation instructions for this item as well as a video showing a typical installation.
