Will Reese Weight Distribution # RP66073 Fit 2008 KZ Spree 289 Travel Trailer on 2012 Ford F-150

Question:

What is the correct weight distribution and sway control system for a 2008 KZ Spree 289 travel trailer dry hitch weight is around 600 lbs pulled by a 2012 F150 Supercrew with tow pkg. I currently have a Reese Pro series WD friction but still experiencing some sway at the tail end. I'm used to WD and SC, this Reese hitch was new to me when I purchased the trailer used in 2012.

While the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System with Sway Control # RP66073 you referenced is a good fit for your 2008 KZ Spree 289 Trailer pulled by your 2012 Ford F-150, you might want to go with the Reese Weight Distribution # RP66074 as it has a higher-rated tongue weight.

I have provided a link to a video showing the installation of this product.

After doing some research, I have found the full weight capacity of your trailer is 7000 lbs which would put your tongue weight at roughly 700 lbs. But when choosing a weight distribution system, you will need to go by the total tongue weight which is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the truck.

The Strait-Line weight distribution system has a tongue weight capacity of 600-1200 lbs, a good weight for your set up, and an overall weight capacity of 12,000 lbs. The self-centering sway control works in a straight-line movement, in corning, and in sudden swerving while bolted into the A-frame trailer tongue, attaching to the lift brackets via chains.

I have provided links to the installation instructions as well as alternative installation instructions for this hitch. I have also included links to our FAQ pages on weight distribution systems and determining tongue weights.

If you need a shank for this weight distribution system, you might be interested in the Reese Weight Distribution Shank # RP54970. If you need a hitch ball, you can go with the 2-5/16-inch ball # 19286 or the 2-inch ball # A-90.
