Which Fastway e2 Round Bar Weight Distribution System for 4800 lb Travel Trailer
Question:
Hello, I have a 2017 Toyota 4 Runner Limited With a 500 lb tongue weight. I will be towing a 2021 Forest River Salem 178BHSK Platinum, 430 lb Hitch weight. 3749 lbs unloaded about 4800 lbs fully loaded. Which E2 Fastway e2 2-Point Sway Control Round Bar Hitch should I get the 6000 lb, 8000 lb or 10000 lb model please? My RV dealer says 6000, and my friend says 10,000. Please advise. Thank you

A trailer's tongue weight is typically 10-15% of it's weight, so if your trailer weighs about 4800 lbs fully loaded, it's tongue weight when loaded as it typically would be when it's towed would be between 480-720 lbs. You'd also want to include the weight of anything loaded in the tow vehicle's cargo area behind the rear axle as tongue weight which could push that figure up a little.
The best way to determine which you need would be to load the camper up and get the tongue weight. I'll link you to a help article that explains how to do this.
All things considered, I'd recommend going with the 800 lb system, part # FA94-00-0800 which is rated for trailers with tongue weights ranging from 400-800 lbs which would be perfect for the loaded weight you mentioned.
The trailer ball isn't included. For a 2 inch ball, use # A-90 for a 2 inch ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball. You'll need a thin-walled 1-7/8 socket to install the ball, if you don't have or can't borrow one, we offer them as part # EQ70-00-4800.
I've linked you to a video showing a typical isntall/setup.
