Advantage Of Replacing ST235/85R16 Load Range F Tires W/ ST235/85R16 Load Range G

Question:

I am looking at getting a higher load range tire for a 2021 fifth wheel. Currently the trailer MFG GVWR is 17,000. The axles are 7,000 each 2. The amount of cargo loaded is not to exceed 2740lbs. The tires currently are ST235/85R16F speed class M. If I change the 4 tires to ST235/85R16G speed class M, what are the advantages other than the tires being cooler at normal highway speed, what load advantage is gained/changed? Thanks,

The only advantage to switching from a ST235/85R16 Load Range F tire to an ST235/85R16 Load Range G tire like the Provider ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range G # TTWPRG235R16 is that the tire will run cooler like you mentioned, do to the tire not being as close to its max load capacity. This tire has a load rating of 4400lbs at 110 PSI.

Changing the load rating of the tires will not increase the GVWR of your trailer, as you are limited to the lowest rated component which would be the axle or the frame of the trailer.

I will say based on the GVWR of 17000lbs you mentioned, your trailer should have a load range G tire since when combined you would have a total weight capacity of 17600 where 4 load range F tires will only have a total weight capacity of 15840lbs.

I included a video of the # TTWPRG235R16 for you to take a look at.
