7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller Installation in 2018 Dodge Durango

Question:

2018 Dodge Durango Citadel I recently bought included a hitch with the 4 prong light connecter. I am in need to pull my trailer that has the 7 wire end, and need the part for my Durango. Is there a way to see if it is currently wired for the 7 prong connector from the factory. The 4 dealers in my area tell me possiblyinch but no conclusive answer. I am trying to figure out which parts to buy, they want to charge me $100 just to check it.

The 4 pole trailer connector on your 2018 Dodge Durango is likely aftermarket, but there's a chance the vehicle is prewired for a brake controller and a 7-way.

Check under the dash to see if the vehicle is equipped with the connector for installing a brake controller. The connector, if it's present, would be located to the left of the steering column, near the top of the e-brake pedal. It'll usually be taped to a different wiring harness.

If the connector is there, look under the vehicle behind the bumper or on the frame rails. If you see rectangular connector like the inverse of what's shown in the provided photo, your vehicle is prewired. If you have the rectangular connector, use part # HM40975-11933 to install a 7-way.

If the vehicle isn't prewired, all hope is not lost-we have a solution for you. Tekonsha offers the # TK22113 which will wire the vehicle for a 7-way and a brake controller. For a brake controller, the Tekonsha P3, part
# 90195 would be an excellent choice. The controller is very easy to use with a very easy to understand user interface. I'll link to a video showing how the P3 works.
